What strikes me is how steep the gradient gets as you get closer to the North Shore...YVR to City Hall ish is a difference of about 100 mm, but in a shorter distance, from City Hall to I think Lonsdale Quay-ish, the difference is nearly 450 mm.

What year is this from, 2016? Using a manual rain gauge and daily recording, I know that I had over 2000 mm of rain.

No, that's normal values (average). For stations having at least 15 years of data.
