Good for southern SK and MB as well.

Yup! I was waiting for that updated Canadian map to come out. :)

Here is the map (I zoomed into the praries).

Total precip thru to hr384 on the latest GFS. Does not look promising for the drought affected regions across the prairies including the Calgary area.

I am surprised Calgary is showing as abnormally dry on that map. SW Alberta has generally received more snow than normal this winter. Once the ground thaws we are going to need a good rain though. Snow packs in the foothills of Alberta are running higher than normal and more snow is coming. Still too early to say if there is a potential for flooding but the probability seems to be growing. SE Sask did receive a good dump of snow after Feb 28th so hopefully that relieved some of the drought concerns there.... but they need more. Not much precipitation in the forecast for southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba in the next 10 days according to the GFS.

Using 10:1 ratio, the NAM3KM is progging 15cm of snow for Calgary on Thursday afternoon and evening.

On Saturday, another system will likely bring more snow to Calgary and much of SW Alberta.

Here are some graphs showing the snow pack in the mountains of the Bow River watershed west of Calgary. Snow pack is above normal for this time of year:

Doesn't look too significant for Saturday. 5cm?

Largest snowfall of the season possible tomorrow though.

Yeah Saturday looks a little wimpy but Thursday looks good. Might not be the largest for me. We did get some good dumps this winter.

Only 10cm of new snow at my house yesterday. Was hoping for more. About 30-45 minutes west of Calgary there was a lot more snow received - about a foot or so.

Hmmm...more towards the west due to upsloping?

Yup. My friend Tom in Kananaskis had 35cm in 24 hours. We had a low pressure system moving from the SE to the NW through Alberta (sort of followed the Rocky Mountains) that was steering north or northeasterly winds at the surface into the foothills. Some more snow coming tonight, Saturday and a bit on Sunday.

Unreal the continuation of the cold and or snow in Alberta, just the long duration I'm sure they've had it before but this is just amazing and the cold cuts through part of central and more so northeastern B.C. as well. It still leaves me to believe a 2011 type summer for Southwest B.C.
