Suffered a major hardware failure, will be replaced with a new modern radar and moved to a better location providing improved coverage for the area. I mean 2021??????????? How friggen long does it take. So pathetic. I could see a year but that is just unacceptable.

I had wondered what was up with that radar. 2021? That’s a ridiculous time frame for replacement. Then again when the US finally put up a radar for the Washington Coast SW of the Olympics back in 2011, it was a 3 year process and that was after a decade of debate to actually get it approved. It’s sad how weather projects tend to move incredibly slowly.

Canada's radar network is in the middle of being upgraded right now. The first station in Saskatchewan was just completed early this week (Radisson) and the rest should be done over the next several years. I think they're upgrading a few a year. The schedule was supposed to be published somewhere but I have not been able to find it online. I don't know where the new location for Victoria's station will be but I imagine they are going to pick a spot that can see both west over the Pacific Ocean and east towards Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. I hope. The current (old) location can only see east.
