"Airport" weather stations??

Postby Glacier » Mon Jul 20, 2015 12:08 pm

I notice that many of the weather stations have switched from being "Muncho Lake" to "Muncho Lake A" or "Lytton" to "Lytton A" or "Tetsa River" to "Tetsa River A". The letter "A" is supposed to represent an airport, so I assumed until I actually drove by Munch Lake and Tetsa River last week. There is a dirt airstrip at Muncho Lake, but the weather station is at the post office several kilometers away just as it has been for decades. Okay, close enough for horseshoes, hand grenades, and Environment Canada, but then I drove by Tetsa River, and notice that the weather station consists of two Stevenson screens next to the highway. This place is a small resort along the Alaska highway northwest of Fort Nelson. THERE IS NO AIRPORT AT THIS LOCATION. What gives?
