The 12z NAM is showing 35 kt gusts for the valley starting on Friday. I'd like to see the WRF 4 km grid because I wouldn't be surprised if that was underdone.

Re: February 2014 Weather Conditions and Forecasts

I noticed in Abby tonight it's +5 very odd considering all around that area it's colder. -0.3 here. Moderate fog. That would be the wind... we truly are the anus of the Lower Mainland during these conditions. Actually, it's not that bad... the low dew point keeps things nice and dry. The ground was...

Hi John, glad you decided to come. :)

Re: February 22/23/24 storm totals

Does anyone else keep track of their snow water content? My rain gauge allows me to capture snow by removing the funnel portion, then I bring it in the house and melt it down. For 26.2 cm of snow, I measured 26.7 mm of liquid; pretty close to a 10:1 ratio... but it did vary a lot. It was more like 5...

Re: February 2014 Weather Conditions and Forecasts

I'm glad the ECMWF is on board. It's been flopping around like crazy despite being one of the first to pick up on the trend a few days ago.

How's the GEM looking? It's been pretty accurate lately.

Re: Music

I'm definitely into a little bit of everything. I liked the usual pop, rock, and rap during my teenage years, throughout the early and mid 90's. In the late 90's, I was more into classic rock (70's stuff like Pink Floyd, etc) and film scores. I definitely noticed the downward slide of popular music ...

Re: February 2014 Weather Conditions and Forecasts

January 2012 was also a better event for Abbotsford. I seem to recall your area having a foot of snow. I had about 20 cm, and it was also much colder. Apples to apples, this was a pretty good event for late February. I can only recall maybe one event in my lifetime with similar snowfall amounts thi...

Re: February 2014 Weather Conditions and Forecasts

Awesome snow event! Wow. They kept calling for rain but the phenomena wouldn't let it be this time! At my place in Langley at 300', it snowed all night until it stopped. Ended up with about 14" total. It was wild! I had 9" by Sunday night, then another 4" Monday, then another 1"...

Re: February 22/23/24 storm totals

I see its been mentioned already, but it really is astounding just how much the storm totals varied within such a short distance and almost no change in elevation. I've done quite a lot of driving around the past few days in the Abbotsford area and during the worst (or best) of the snowfall, you co...
