Re: February 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Looks like the models have turned more ridgy in the medium range. Its common to see a 5-10 day( or longer)period of dry weather in February and a return to a stormier pattern in March. This happened as recently as 2015. This is more bad news for California. They had one wet year and than back to dro...

Re: Daily And Monthly Precipitation Totals 2018

A little underwhelming but lots of atmospheric river left. It almost looks like the bulk of the moisture might hit just to our North. As for some other AR events Oct 2003 and Jan 2005 were the biggest and baddest. But some others off the top of my head that were definitely no slouches were Nov 2006...

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

00z GFS is balmy in the long range. Although I keep thinking of what happened in 2008 when we had a few very warm spring like days in late February and it was followed by a cold and wet March and April and we even had snow in April in that year!

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

CPC 6-10 day and 8-14 day are not trending toward any type of warm up for the Pac NW. Only in the 8-14 day does it show a higher probability of ridging but not warm. I'd be very surprised to see any warm patterns until late Spring. This is still a la nina after all.

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Hopefully we see cold and dry with no inversions. I'd be totally fine with that. Although it will probably end up looking like the first couple weeks of this past December. Dry with some fog at times. It's quite common to have February trend drier and than a return to active weather in March. This h...

Re: Daily And Monthly Precipitation Totals 2018

Just talked to my brother. He said they got 5 feet of snow in the Chilcotin last week (at 2000ft above valley bottom) and the D8 dozer was struggling to clear the snow for the logging trucks. Although rare the Chilcotin can sometimes get epic snowfalls. I was at Charlotte Lake for one such snowfall...

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

BC river forecast centre has just issued a high streamflow advisory for Vancouver Island, the South Coast and the Central Coast for tomorrow and Monday and into Tuesday. The freezing level shoots up for about a 24 hour period coinciding with loads of subtropical moisture from the atmospheric river. ...

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

It looks like the Olympic rain shadow prevented alot of the rain from hitting much of Metro Vancouver after late evening but it continued to the north and now to the south of us. Its been dry for several hours now and the roads are now dry. Only 18mm the past 24 hours for Burke mtn so much less than...

Re: January 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

The snow level is going to shoot up like a rocket when the bulk of the moisture hits later today and tonight. The front is tapping into moisture between Hawaii and California. 1600m is tonight's forecasted snow level so it will be raining on all the North shore ski hills. That's just above the top o...
