Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

The last several runs of the GFS show a common summertime pattern that is typical for July not May! The North Pacific high is strong and well in its summer position already with systems deflected to the North and central coast and the Alaskan panhandle leaving the southern part of the province high ...

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Russ Lacate was talking today about how dry this month has been. In many areas less than 10% of the normal rainfall has fallen. If June remains drier than normal than I'm afraid fires, smoke and campfire bans will be the story of the summer again, unless there is at least normal rainfall in July and...

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Cliff Mass mentions in a post today that Seattle might have their driest May on record. Not on pace for the warmest though. Already the fire danger is high, according to the the West Vancouver fire station board. Small fire on Mt Brunswick. Very early to be talking fires already.

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Models showing a slight cooldown by mid-week. Good. Its just too early for this kind of heat. 20 celsius would be great but 30 is kind of ridiculous for this time of year. Let it come in July. Any sustained heat will just mean more flooding and more problems. The rivers around Pemberton and Whistler...

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

After that bone dry May 2015 the drought was in full swing but this year we have the snowpack so we will be fine for water. In 2016 May was on pace to be one of the hottest and driest on record until a one day downpour on May 28 skewed the numbers and in 2013 it didnt rain until late in the month af...

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

Fingers crossed this pattern is here to stay for the next few months.....then a flip to cold in fall and winter when we want it! This would be great! 8-) Ya but we gotta have some rain here and there or we will be dealing with fires and smoke again. I think last summer and summer 2015 were too hot/...

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

About 18mm here so far this month and with the possibility of no rain for the rest of it (models are hinting at 2-3 weeks of no rain) are we looking at one of the driest May' s on record? Similar pattern to last year shaping up as we had a heat wave on the May long weekend and much warmer than norma...

The 12z GFS is dreadfully wet. Likely overdone as those are November like rainfall totals!

Re: May 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

The Grouse Grind opened today. Last year it didnt open until June 17. Am I missing something? There is a huge snowpack. We had a couple of warm days but not enough to melt that much because the Cut is still totally covered in snow which means there should be lots of snow in the top 1/3 of the trail....

Re: April 2018 Current Conditions and Forecasts

12z GFS and the CPC look warm and dry until Mid May except for this weekend although GFS flip flopping like crazy. Im always a little concerned when summer starts early because, despite all the water this year, the forest can dry up pretty quickly and we might have another smoke show by July/August...
