Re: January 2019 Current Conditions And Forecasts

The long range models are all over the map. 00z GFS is dry with a big ridge in the long range. Euro is not as dry and the 00z Canadian model has a massive atmospheric river around the 18th-20th of January. I just got back from the Philippines. (Bohol in the Visayas region) What crazy weather there! ...

Re: October 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

Where is everyone today :?: Latest models show the Tuesday system breaking apart. Might be another dry day Tuesday. Even EC only has a mix of sun and cloud with 40% chance of showers for Tuesday. If it rains Wednesday that would be a 15 day dry spell. Not bad for mid-October although doesn't compare...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Discussion

I think a good analog is 2002-2003. Weak to moderate El Nino that year as well. 2002 was a hot and dry summer, a bone dry October. Only difference was this year we had a wet September. The record dry October 2002 was followed by a very stormy 3 week period in November than for Dec and Jan lots of ri...

Re: October 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

Do you think the stormy pattern next week will be able to dismantle that blob? It could put a dent in the northern and eastern parts of it. Not likely to take it out though. What we really need is for the long range models to be wrong, and this upcoming stormy pattern to persist without that ridge ...

Re: October 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

18z pretty much bone dry throughout the entire run. Latest 12z GFS has a couple of wet systems replacing Ridgezilla around the last week of October. This is a typical "lifespan" of a ridge like this at this time of year. Hopefully the kids get a dry Halloween. Sure was a great morning for...

Re: 2018-2019 Winter Discussion

These graphs have, at best, a 20-30% chance of verifying so that's a 70-80% chance that they will be wrong. I remember Accuweathers Fall forecasts for last year or maybe it was 2016. They were calling for a warm and dry Fall and the opposite occurred and the El Nino years of 97-98 and 2015-2016 were...

Re: October 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

U think this ridge will persist all winter, hence the start of a new PATTRENN Lock? Warm and ridgy with bouts of inversions followed by depressions?    The last real winter drought was 2000-2001 where rainfall was 20-50% of normal. Even 2013-2014 wasn't even close to being that...

Re: October 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

Some similarities to 2013 popping up. A dry summer followed by a very wet September and than rain at the very beginning of October than an extended dry spell giving us a dry October. Oct 2002 was the driest ever and that was a full on drought. I believe it didn't rain until Nov 6th that year and the...

Re: September 2018 Currrent Conditions & Forecasts

I just heard thunder. Looks like the cell just gonna miss the Coquitlam centre area and go into the mountains. Some potential for a clap or two with that big area of rain currently heading east over the Salish sea. It looks like it will hit the North Shore and DT areas in about an hour.
